Checking your skin could save your life.

1,250 Canadians will die of melanoma this year—you don’t have to be a part of that statistic. Did you know that you are your best defense against skin cancer? 10 minutes could save your life—here's how to give yourself a thorough skin cancer screening:

1.) Strip down to your birthday suit and make sure you have good lighting, a full-length mirror, and a hand mirror.

2.) Start with your scalp, then examine your face, under the nose, ears, and behind the ears.

3.) Next, look at your arms, underarms, and backs of arms. Check your chest, then abdomen, pelvis, groin, and legs. After that, sit down and check your feet, including between your toes.

4.) Lastly, use your hand mirror to check your back, buttocks, and the back of the legs.

Every surface of the skin should be checked—even those places where the sun doesn't shine. During your self-check, look for any moles or spots that are irregular, changing, or bleeding—it's as easy as ABCDE.

Prevention is key. The entire month of May, we're giving away a complimentary sunscreen when you buy a cleanser, antioxidant serum, and moisturizer in honor of Melanoma Awareness Month.
