Sun Safety for Summer

Sun Safety for Summer

May is Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness Month

The seasons are changing, Friend, and it’s time to up your suncare game.

Although skin cancer is the most common type of cancer, it’s also highly curable when caught early. That’s why we’re sharing our annual sun safety reminder so you can have fun—and protect your health—this summer.

Here are the three easy ways to prevent melanoma and skin cancer when you’re enjoying time outdoors:

  1. Wear sunscreen. It really helps! We recommend broad spectrum SPF 40 or higher lotion or cream, applied and reapplied regularly. Make sure you're using enough—about the size of a golf ball is enough to cover the face and body.
  2. Cover up with hats, scarves, and long sleeves when you’ll be in the sun for an extended time.
  3. Check your skin for skin cancer warning signs. We recommend doing this once a month. Remember to check less-visible areas like the scalp, bottoms of feet, and under the nails.

1. Asymmetry: The spot isn't symmetrical or uniform in shape.
2. Border: Borders are irregular, scalloped, or ill defined.
3. Colour: There are varying colours from one area to the next.
4. Diameter: It's more than 6 mm in diameter at its widest.
5. Evolution: Size, shape, colour, or texture changes noticeably over time.

If you spot anything that looks unusual or gives you concern, see your family doctor or dermatologist. In the meanime, be sun safe out there—and enjoy the sunshine while it’s here!

RESEARCH CORNER:

This Power Duo Works Wonders

Together with a team of international scientists, our very own Drs. Sonya Cook and Julia Carroll have co-authored a scientific paper in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal about how combining two of our favorite skin-tightening treatments can deliver remarkable results.

In the study, researchers confirmed that patients who received a combination of Ultherapy and Radiesse saw smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin. The team showed scientific proof of boosted collagen and elastin production, leading to higher patient satisfaction—which we see in our own clinic!
