MOXI™ Laser Toronto

Treat the Visible Signs of Aging with Laser Resurfacing

The MOXI™ laser by Sciton® is a gentle yet powerful resurfacing laser designed to effectively treat the visible signs of aging and produce evenly toned, radiant skin. Any skin type can be treated at any time of the year. There is little recovery following a MOXI™ treatment and minimal discomfort.

What is the MOXI™ Laser?

The MOXI™ Laser is a non-ablative 1927nm thulium fractionated laser that gently heats columns of tissue in the skin to stimulate your natural healing process. MOXI™ is our go-to treatment for improving pigmentation and melasma. It also improves the texture of the skin and stimulates collagen and elastin for an antiaging effect.

The number of sessions required depends on how much pigment is present and how much improvement you desire. Most people start with 3 treatments over 3-6 months.

MOXI™ laser is for everyone! MOXI™ comfortably delivers non-ablative laser energy—no matter the season or skin type—for a glowing and clear complexion.

What to Expect for Your Treatment

Before Your Treatment
During your initial consultation at Compass Dermatology, one of our expert laser aestheticians will assess your skin concerns and skin type, as well as discuss realistic expectations. This personalized evaluation ensures your treatment is customized to address your specific needs while accounting for your individual characteristics.

During Treatment
The MOXI handpiece is passed over the treatment area, delivering fractional laser energy. Most patients describe a prickly sensation. A topical anesthetic applied beforehand further enhances comfort, ensuring the experience is pleasant rather than uncomfortable.

Post-Treatment and Recovery
The true beauty of MOXI is the minimal downtime. Unlike ablative laser treatments that leave visible scaling for a week or more, MOXI's most notable post-treatment sensation is that your skin feels like sandpaper for several days. This is a sign of the microscopic fractional treatment at work. Many patients experience:

  • Mild redness: Generally resolves within a day or two
  • Minimal peeling: Subtle exfoliation rather than dramatic flaking
  • Visible improvement: Many patients notice improved pigmentation and texture within 5 days

Most importantly, you can resume your normal activities immediately.

Afterward
Once your treatment is complete, aftercare products are applied to protect your skin and promote healing. You can resume your typical activities the day following your treatment. We recommend a repair cream such as Alastin Nectar or SkinCeuticals Epidermal Repair in combination with a broad-spectrum sunscreen and Oxygenetix healing foundation. For several days following your treatment, your skin will feel like sandpaper. You will see improved pigmentation and texture within 5 days following your treatment. Results are long-lasting and can be maintained and further enhanced with subsequent treatments.

While individual results vary, most patients begin seeing improvements within days of their first treatment. Results continue improving over several months as collagen remodelling progresses beneath the skin's surface. This delayed but continuous improvement is why many patients report their best results 2-3 months after completing their initial series. Regular maintenance treatments help sustain and further enhance results.

MOXI as Part of Your Comprehensive Skin Strategy

For optimal results, MOXI integrates beautifully into comprehensive aesthetic plans. Whether combined with:

  • Skincare optimization: Medical-grade products enhance and maintain results
  • Other laser treatments: Sequential protocols address different aging concerns
  • Injectables: Botox and fillers address structural concerns, while MOXI improves quality

The key is working with one of our board-certified dermatologists who understands how to layer treatments strategically for superior outcomes.

The MOXI WOW Combination: Enhanced Results Through Technology Synergy

While MOXI alone delivers excellent results, Compass Dermatology's innovative MOXI WOW protocol combines MOXI with BBL HERO (Broadband Light Hero technology) to address both pigmentation and vascular concerns simultaneously. This combination approach is particularly effective because:

  • MOXI targets deeper dermal pigment and stimulates collagen remodelling
  • BBL HERO addresses superficial brown spots and red pigmentation (including rosacea or broken capillaries)

By combining both technologies, patients achieve more comprehensive results than either treatment could provide alone. The synergistic effect addresses multiple aging concerns in a single protocol, making it an efficient choice for those seeking comprehensive facial rejuvenation.

The MOXI Laser: Advanced Thulium Fractional Technology for Comprehensive Skin Renewal

MOXI utilizes a 1927-nanometer thulium fractional laser, which is a specific wavelength and delivery system precisely engineered to address pigmentation and skin texture concerns.

The 1927nm Wavelength: Why It Matters

The 1927-nanometer wavelength heats targeted areas beneath the skin's surface, triggering the body's natural healing response and collagen remodelling, all while preserving the skin's protective outer barrier. This characteristic is what allows MOXI to treat all Fitzpatrick skin types safely year-round with a lower risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Fractional Delivery: Precision Meets Safety

The "fractional" aspect of MOXI technology refers to how the laser energy is delivered. Rather than treating the entire skin surface uniformly, fractional technology creates a pattern of microscopic treatment zones surrounded by untreated skin. This pattern accelerates healing because the surrounding untreated areas contribute to faster recovery. The fractional approach essentially provides the benefits of a powerful treatment with the convenience of minimal downtime.

How MOXI Addresses Your Specific Aging Concerns

Melasma: MOXI's Signature Treatment
Melasma (those frustrating patches of hyperpigmentation typically on the face) has historically been challenging to treat. MOXI has become the go-to treatment for melasma specifically because the 1927nm wavelength targets the melanin, which causes the skin’s discolouration, while the fractional, non-ablative delivery minimizes irritation and reduces recurrence risk. Most melasma patients see significant improvement within 3-5 treatments, with continued improvement over subsequent months as collagen remodelling progresses.

Sun Spots and Freckles: Fading Away Decades of Sun Damage
Freckles and age spots represent decades of cumulative sun exposure. They're harmless but can create an appearance of uneven skin tone and contribute to a more aged look. MOXI's thermal energy targets the concentrated melanin in these spots, breaking them down so your body can naturally eliminate them. Unlike more aggressive treatments, MOXI typically requires no dramatic peeling. Spots typically fade progressively over several days to weeks following treatment.

Uneven Texture and Dull Skin
Beyond pigmentation, MOXI improves overall skin quality through its collagen-stimulating effects. By heating the dermal layer, the treatment triggers the production of new collagen and elastin by fibroblasts. This results in smoother, more refined skin texture and a naturally radiant appearance. Our patients frequently report that their skin looks more vibrant and youthful, and not just in terms of specific blemishes or spots addressed, but in overall luminosity and quality too!

Why MOXI's Year-Round, All-Skin-Type Capability Matters

One of MOXI's most significant advantages is its versatility across different skin tones and seasons. Traditional laser treatments often posed complications for darker skin types or required avoiding sun exposure post-treatment. MOXI changes this equation:

Safe for all skin types: The 1927nm wavelength and fractional delivery minimize post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation risk.
Treatable year-round: While sun protection remains essential post-treatment, the minimal downtime means you're not restricted from normal activities.

Flexible scheduling: No need to wait until winter or adjust your lifestyle significantly. This accessibility democratizes advanced laser skin treatments, allowing more patients to access professional-grade results regardless of their skin tone.
