MicroLaserPeel® Toronto

Laser Powered Skin Exfoliation By Sciton

The MicroLaserPeel®, or Micro Laser Peel, is a skin rejuvenation procedure which uses an Erbium laser to remove the superficial layers of the skin. It s excellent for targeting uneven texture, pigmentation (including light pigmentation), and fine lines.

What is MicroLaserPeel?

A MicroLaserPeel is a precise laser technology that exfoliates the top layers of skin to kickstart cellular renewal and reveal the fresh, even and smooth skin underneath. It removes the damaged upper layers of skin and accelerates the rate at which healthy skin cells are produced. This increases collagen production for total skin rejuvenation

The depth of your MicroLaserPeel can be customised based on your desired outcome and expectation for recovery time.

Who is a Candiate for a MicroLaserPeel?

A MicroLaserPeel is able to improve the following skin concerns:

  • Fine lines
  • Pigmentation
  • Uneven tone
  • Keratoses (precancerous lesions)
  • Sun damage, such as freckles and sunspots
  • Overall dullness

The treatment is suitable for the face, neck chest and hands.

MicroLaserPeel treatments are great on their own or in combination with other products and cosmetic procedures for a more comprehensive improvement of your complexion.

Tailored for You

The flexibility of a MicroLaserPeel allows us to adjust the settings to give you the intensity you need to safely achieve the results you want. For extensive sun damage, deeper skin resurfacing can be performed. For more severe issues, full skin resurfacing can be performed.

Treats a Wide Variety of Concerns

Conditions that are effectively treated include mild wrinkles, keratoses, sun damage and pigmentation.

Dramatic Results After Just One Treatment

After just one treatment, your skin will look years younger!

How Does MicroLaserPeel Work?

The MicroLaserPeel technology utilizes an Erbium laser to precisely scan the targeted area. This gently removes the damaged uppermost layer of skin, thereby eliminating complexion imperfections. The depth of the peel is determined by your desired amount of correction, ranging up to 30μm (micrometres).

In the days following the treatment, cellular turnover occurs and the skin repairs itself. The damaged layers are shed and healthy skin cells cover the treated area.

Our Comprehensive Approach to MicroLaserPeel

Prior to your MicroLaserPeel you’ll consult with one of our expert laser aestheticians as well as one of our board-certified dermatologists to confirm that you are a good candidate for this treatment.

On the day of your MicroLaserPeel, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed. For deeper peels, a topical anesthetic will be applied for up to one hour to increase your comfort.

The handpiece of the MicroLaserPeel device will be held over the target area. A computer precisely guides the laser beam across the area, at a depth of 10-30 um. It is a relatively comfortable procedure that typically takes just 30 minutes. Upon completion of your peel a healing ointment is applied. During the recovery period of 3-5 days, your skin will be red, swollen, and will peel.

The Micro Laser Peel is often referred to as the “weekend peel” - make your appointment Friday, recover over the weekend, and show off Monday.

The most frequent comment we hear from our patients once they see their results is that they love how vibrant and healthy their skin looks!

The Erbium Laser: Advanced Technology Behind MicroLaserPeel

When you choose to have a Micro Laser Peel at Compass Dermatology, you're benefiting from one of the most sophisticated and precisely controlled skin resurfacing technologies available today. At the heart of this treatment is the erbium laser—a specialized laser technology specifically engineered for safe, effective skin exfoliation.

What Makes the Erbium Laser Unique
The erbium laser functions at a wavelength of 2,940 nanometers, which is particularly absorbed by water present in the skin's tissues. This is a critical distinction. Unlike other laser wavelengths that target specific pigments (like melanin or hemoglobin), the erbium laser's energy is absorbed uniformly by the water content in all skin cells, making it exceptionally precise and controllable. This water absorption property means the laser can remove tissue layer by layer with extraordinary accuracy, sometimes down to just a few micrometres (millionths of a metre) of depth.

Think of it like laser surgery under a microscope. We can control exactly how deep the laser energy penetrates and how much tissue is removed, with unprecedented precision. This level of control is what distinguishes the erbium laser from other resurfacing approaches.

The erbium laser used in MicroLaserPeel is classified as an ablative laser, meaning it removes tissue rather than simply heating it. When the erbium laser beam strikes the skin, the water in skin cells absorbs the laser energy so rapidly that it causes the instantaneous vaporization of that tissue layer. This is why MicroLaserPeel is so effective: it doesn't just cause thermal damage; it removes damaged skin directly, revealing the healthier, younger-looking skin underneath.

What Sets Micro-laser Peel Apart from Other Erbium Lasers

The MicroLaserPeel device features precise scanning protocols. Rather than a single powerful blast, the laser makes many rapid, carefully controlled passes over the treatment area. The computerized handpiece tracks the exact depth and ensures uniform treatment across the entire area. This systematic approach eliminates the inconsistency problems that plagued earlier laser technologies, delivering remarkably uniform results and predictable healing. It can also be adjusted to remove tissue at depths ranging from just 10 micrometres to 30 micrometres (or "microns"). If you consider that a human hair is approximately 70 micrometres in diameter, we're talking about removing tissue at a depth roughly equivalent to one-quarter to one-half the thickness of a human hair. This extraordinary precision means:

Superficial treatments can address light pigmentation, fine lines, and overall texture without significant downtime.

Moderate treatments can address sun damage, age spots, and minor scarring with a few days of redness.

Deeper treatments can address more significant textural problems and precancerous growths while remaining safe and predictable.
The laser aesthetician adjusts these parameters based on your specific skin concerns.

Why Expert Application Matters

While erbium laser technology is powerful, its safety and efficacy depend entirely on professional expertise. The computerized Sciton platform provides guidance and control, but our experienced laser technician must:

  • Assess skin type and condition to determine appropriate depth
  • Calibrate laser settings for individual healing capacity
  • Monitor treatment in real-time to ensure consistency
  • Provide comprehensive pre- and post-treatment care guidance

This professional oversight ensures you receive the benefits of erbium laser technology safely, with results tailored to your specific needs rather than one-size-fits-all outcomes.
